Overview

Situated in the heart of Chicago’s vibrant Cicero neighborhood, Taqueria los Molcajetes #2 offers an authentic dive into traditional Mexican cuisine, focusing heavily on rich, comforting caldos and robust flavors that tell stories of home-cooked meals. The eatery's main attractions are its hearty soups—Menudo, Caldo de Res, and Birria de Chivo stand out, each simmered to perfection with layers of spices and tender meats that invite you to slow down and savor every spoonful.

The space itself is unpretentious, modest, and welcoming, designed for casual diners who appreciate genuine flavors over flashy décor. This spot targets locals and visitors craving honest Mexican fare that resonates with nostalgic family recipes and street food culture. The menu also features simple yet satisfying options like guacamole and nachos, perfect as starters that complement the soulful caldos beautifully.

Taqueria los Molcajetes #2 shines in its ability to balance traditional ingredients—hominy, tripe, and goat meat—and classic preparations that feel both familiar and deeply comforting. Those seeking an immersive culinary experience rooted in Mexico’s heartland will find a welcoming haven here. This restaurant is less about trend and more about timelessness, capturing the vibrant essence of Mexican home cooking right in Chicago.

Highly recommended! The food is delicious and the service is outstanding. I was there with my whole family and they treated us exceptionally well. Mr. Efraín was incredibly kind, and the waitress who served us was also very friendly. It's definitely worth going back. 100%

I would like to respond to the previous comment from the person named Alexandra! She is the most rude and despotic woman. The day of that argument I was there with my family, first of all the woman was the most rude kissing in front of my children with her tongue and touching her partner in a vulgar way, secondly I saw how she asked the waitress for things, she was the most despotic, they are only there to serve us, not to please people like you, bad luck for her is that most of the times when they eat there I have to see them inside the restaurant, because I stop by every day to buy a very good roast beef sandwich, and I have never had a complaint about the service and the food is really good and tasty, and I will not let a woman without values come and discriminate against those hard-working people, just because people like her want to command people their way, and I take the trouble to see her page and everywhere she goes she leaves bad comments, I think it's because nobody can stand her and I wouldn't do it either
